About

White Death Diary introduces you to the diary of Simo Häyhä. The diary was only discovered in 2017 from Häyhä's relative's drawer.

The original memoir has been greatly expanded with every known previously only in Finnish story regarding Häyhä. Even correcting some of the stories told of his war path.

Contextualizing the diary with war-time photographs and memories allows you to learn of the war and humanity that were on full display on Kollaa.

You will also learn more about Häyhä's own thoughts regarding life and war.

The site is meant to respect the humanity of the war in Kollaa. This means also keeping faithful to the original spirit with the translations from Finnish to English. The texts and thoughts vary from battle memories to more playful and personal letters.
